My Experience Using Storly Ai to Write My Story

I imagine Ai is as shocking today as Internet was in the mid 1990’s. I don’t go too deep, but I do look for tools that help me be more efficient, help me focus and get me through writing blocks. And Storly Ai fits the bill.

I found Storly Ai earlier today and signed up for free. Let’s face it. It’s hard to write about ourselves. And I am not famous enough for others to interview me so this interested me.

First, Storly Ai asked me to suggest a topic. My choices were:
– Overcoming a personal challenge
– Pursuing a passion
– Making a difference in your community
– Embracing self-acceptance and self-love
– Overcoming adversity

I chose “Pursuing a Passion”. What would you choose?

It asked me 5 questions using Ai generated prompts that really challenged me. I am not going to provide the questions here, you’ll have to check it out for yourself. If I didn’t like the question I could get a different one. But I was OK with the ones Storly Ai offered me. This took about 2-3 minutes so far.

After I answered the questions it asked for the title to my story and then it generated the text you see below. Check it out… I could work with that if I was going to officially use it as an about me page or a story for our family time capsule.

Storly Ai Writes My Story

I am providing the actual output it gave me. For the most part, my answers came through in their entirety. Storly Ai just made them sound better. If I were to use this somewhere I would do some tweaking to it. I would have to put my spin to it and add some colorful descriptions, maybe a swear word for emphasis in a few spots. I would definitely go into a lot more detail about a few of my discoveries because they are pretty interesting. (NEVER, ever use Ai straight out of the box)

How Could You Use Storly Ai in my Genealogy Work?

I can see a tool like this being used exactly like it is intended- to write our personal stories. Well actually, giving us an outline go in and dress up, fill out and add some pizazz to it.

This would be a great tool to offer to a client to write their story for the family history research I was doing for them. I would almost consider it onboarding. If they took the time to give thorough, well thought out answers I believe I would have a much better idea of who they were and what we were trying to achieve.

What a great tool to use for writing your story for your grandchildren or great grandchildren. I would venture far enough to even suggest this could be the beginnings of a legacy letter.

I also can see this kind of Ai tool being a way to share the stories about your family heirlooms, traditions, brick wall ancestors…

How I Will Use Storly Ai

I am going to do all of the above. I don’t publish exactly what any Ai provides me. I plan to use it as a tool to find my creative mojo. A quick read of the Ai generated story is sure to prompt me with my own ideas and directions to write about. I am also going to consider how to integrate Storly Ai or a similar tool when working with clients. The better idea I have of who they are, the better I could serve them.

And stretching way back to my college days in psychiatry… I think there is something therapuetic about this. I am not a therapist, but for me personally? I can see some of these prompts walking me right through my bad day or a day when I am not feeling my awesomeness.

My Personal Disclaimers About Storly Ai

• Ai is Ai. Even though you will put your own answers in, you must read the output in its entirety to assure accuracy. Ai can hallucinate sometimes.
• Ai outputs are speculative. Ai tools are doer’s, not thinkers. They are designed to make sense, put order to words. It does not have the ability to correct you. Trash in/ trash out. Good info in/ good info out. (most of the time)
• Use discretion. Permission may be required before publicly sharing detailed stories of recently deceased ancestors, per family preferences. Just consider that maybe some of the stories don’t need to be shared.

Conclusion

In closing, I find Storly AI to be pretty intriguing. I can see it being a useful tool for generating starting points for personal stories. Any Ai output should be edited and ‘fluffed up’ to make the story your own. I plan to continue experimenting with AI writing tools as my own personal assistants in my genealogy work and personal writing projects.

Just remember, these are just tools, not replacements for our own twists, turns and creativity. We must use Storly Ai, or any Ai tool mindfully, with an eye toward maintaining truthful and honorable legacies for our ancestors. AI cannot replicate the nuances of human life stories, but it can help spark our own memories for storytelling when used appropriately.
